@Defenderofeyre LOLz, I totally agree. I’m assuming it’s a great bass, but it’s in the hands of a guy who played a homemade balafon for the first eight years of his life and still built a career as a badass. He could slap a Fender Squier with a dead flounder and Jaco-Afro-Cuban rave up would come out the other end. We’re not worthy!
@Defenderofeyre where to start – you cant judge a ‘fantastic bass’ from listening to a video – ‘fantastic’ is build, stability, reliability and feel PLUS sound. Even budget basses can SOUND fantastic. If MM and Bona like it, then it must play like butter – that’s all I need to know about build quality. In any case – even this vid sounds fine on my budget studio cans.
@Defenderofeyre Um, sorry nope. He’s got mad chops, although he’s not necessarily varying his tonal options, he is demonstrating a number of qualities about the bass just by playing which if you really were interested in the bass and not the player, you’d let your ears do the judging.
@Defenderofeyre We have some reviews on our website by a few Bass-magazines, and we have 2 more reviews coming soon. You can check these if you like. And although I agree with you, you also have to consider that he really does like the bass a lot, which isn’t the case with just any bass.
@RCAvhstape I’m no Ox but I did spend a lot of time working on that four finger righthand technique. John’s tone on this is supersonic! I prefer the 70s Oxtones myself but any stage of John’s playing 60s-04 was beyond special. Anyhow, check out my Ox tribute channel…just because John was a one of a kind doesn’t me that us bassplayers should not persue his amazing example.

Is it the technique that gives the bass that odd sound, or are the sounds he’s making a product of electronics? (or a bad recording?)
